Wokingham Cubs – Sixers Supper

This year’s Sixers Supper was held on Saturday 2nd March at Henry Street Garden Centre, Arborfield.

It’s an annual event for all Cubs who are Sixers and Seconders. The supper is held as near as possible to Baden-Powell’s birthday.

The meal was beef lasagne and chips followed by ice cream in a cone (which always goes down a treat!), along with nibbles and drinks.  There were activities during the evening and a trophy was up for grabs.  We won the trophy last year  – please see the photo on the Cubs page.

Group receive a £5000 award

The Group recently received a cheque for £5000 which will be used to upgrade the heating at the hut.

Along with other Groups in the District, 3rd Wokingham attended the annual Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade and were honoured to be asked by the Town Council to light the candles later in the evening around the Town Hall, to celebrate Wokingham Remembers WW1.

There were over 200 candles placed around the Market Place, which were controlled by remote controls (1 control per 12 candles).  We were asked to find 19 volunteers to switch the candles on as the Town Hall clock struck 7 pm; when the time came there were more than enough people: Leaders, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers all wanted to be there for the memorable occasion which was widely celebrated across the country.

The Market Place was buzzing with young people in uniform and a small crowd of onlookers.  The Town Council’s programme included Sleep in Peace with a piper playing “Battle’s O’er”, a bugler playing “The Last Post” and church bells ringing out in celebration of “Ringing out for peace”.
